1. What are the doors made of?
A: The "glass" panels of a normal shower door have been replaced with lightweight, hollow core polycarbonate panels. These panels are commonly used in commercial buildings where high strength, lightweight and the ability to transmit light are important. The edge trim and hinges are made from high impact PVC thermoplastic. The combination of these high strength lightweight materials allow us to build doors to your color choice and ship it economically direct to your home.
2. How can the traditional aluminum tracks of a glass door be eliminated?
A: The key is the lightweight design. By eliminating the weight of the glass and aluminum, the doors are mounted to the walls so no track is needed to carry the weight of the door.
3. If there is no track, what keeps the door from leaking?
A: The bottom of the door is bent inwards to direct the water back into the bathtub or shower whether the door is open or closed. This feature, as well as the design of the hinge, is patented and both are unique to the Shower Veil® Door.
4. How long has this door been on the market?
A: The Shower Veil® door has been sold worldwide for over 30 years.
5. Can I see a sample of the material the door is made of before I order?
A: Yes. If you request it, we’ll send a small sample to your home free of charge. If you would like to see a specific color, please request it at the time you request your sample.
6. How will the door be shipped?
A: Because of the lightweight construction of the door we can ship your door by a parcel carrier, or a similar carrier, directly to your home.
7. Can I install the door myself or do I need to hire a contractor?
A: Anyone with even basic do-it-yourself skills, can easily install the doors. The doors are lightweight and easy to handle. They come fully assembled and only require attaching the door jamb to the walls. All hardware and easy to follow instructions are included.
8. If I run into trouble, is there someone I can call and talk to or e-mail a question to?
A: Yes. We have a toll free customer service line that’s staffed from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday Eastern Time 1-800-458-9036 or e-mail lyonssupport@lyonsindustries.com.
9. What warranty do these doors have?
A: Each door is covered by a full one-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship.
10. If I order a door and don't like it can I return it?
A: Yes. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you decide anytime within 30 days of receiving the door that you’re not happy with it for any reason, call and obtain a return number and your purchase price will be fully and quickly refunded. You will however be responsible for the freight cost to return the door.
11. What are my width options?
A: The smallest door we make is 23.5 inches wide. The largest is 60 inches wide.
12. What are my height options?
A: Tub doors are 56" high and shower doors are 64" high. It’s a good idea to check your height and make sure you have enough headroom for the door. This is typically not a problem unless one of the tub walls is against a sloped ceiling.
13. What tools will I need to do an installation?
A: You'll need a drill, 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4" drill bits, tape measure, pencil, level and a Phillips Head Screwdriver. If you have a ceramic tile wall, you'll also need a small sharp punch and hammer. To complete the installation you'll need a good grade clear silicone caulk.
